OUR MUSEUM IS A TRUE GEM!

All ages will enjoy the unique experience that our museum has to offer. The museum contains an impressive collection of rocks, minerals, fossils and other one-of-a-kind artifacts. Each specimen that is on display is identified, noting the donor’s name and location of origin. The museum is staffed by Sun City Rockhound volunteers

FLOURESCENT ROOM

This special room has over 130 specimens on display. The room utilizes both short- and long-wave ultra violet (UV) lighting. This spectacular exhibit of rocks and minerals takes on vibrant colors in the dark under the UV lights. This colorful collection is the highlight for many museum visitors and is one of the largest public collections in the Southwest

ARIZONA MINERALS

Immediately to the left as you enter the museum is the Lentz Cabinet which holds donated specimens from Mr & Mrs Lentz. Both grew up in Arizona mining families. Arizona rocks and minerals are highlighted as you continue through the first aisle. Many specimens are copper bearing minerals as seen in the beautiful green and blue coloration, including malachite, azurite, green fluorite, quartz and petrified wood, just to name a few!

INTERNATIONAL SPECIMENS

Specimens found in the remaining cabinets are from all over the world. These treasures have been, and continue to be, donated by rockhounds who wish to share these beautiful specimens so that they can be enjoyed and appreciated by our museum visitors

FOSSILS and INTERACTIVE ARIZONA MAP

In an adjoining room, over 300 fossils are on display, including a mastadon tooth! Also in this room is a large interactive Arizona map with samples of minerals and rocks that have been found over the years on Club collecting field trips. The map lights up when pressing the button by each rock, identifying the location where that sample was found
